Braintree Man Facing Gun, OUI Charges After Passing Out In Car In The Middle Of Road: PD
Police said Edson Lopes, 25, passed out in his car at the intersection of Washington and Hancock streets.

BRAINTREE, MA — A Braintree man was arrested Friday on gun and drug charges after he was found passed out in a car in the middle of an intersection and struggling with officers, according to police.
Just after 6:30 a.m., police received a call about a car at the intersection of Washington and Hancock streets that had not moved for several minutes. The caller told police two people were passed out in the car.
Police said they arrived on scene within seconds and found Edson Lopes, 25, and a woman inside the car. Officers knocked on the window to try to get the driver, Lopes' attention. Lopes awoke and rolled down the window, but officers found him to be lethargic and not responsive to questions, police said. Police suspected Lopes was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police said Lopes refused commands to get out of the car and reached around the vehicle. Officers then opened the car door, grabbed Lopes' arms, and again told him to get outside.
Police said Lopes began a struggle with police. Several officers forced Lopes from the car, then he tried to run away, police said.

Officers then took Lopes to the ground, where he continued to fight with them, police said. After officers handcuffed Lopes, a semi-automatic hand gun fell to the ground, according to police. Police said the gun was loaded with six rounds, including one in the chamber.
Police said they then searched Lopes' car and found another gun, oxycodone pills and bags of crack cocaine.
Lopes was charged with two counts of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possession of a firearm without an FID card, unlawful possession of ammunition, two counts of possession with intent to distribute a class B substance, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.
Lopes is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Friday.
As of Friday, the woman Lopes was with was not charged with a crime.
