Braintree Names New Developer For Pool, Ice Rink Construction
The Petersen Pool and Ice Rink appears to be back on track after Braintree officials named a new developer for the $20 million project.

BRAINTREE, MA — Construction of the Petersen Pool and Ice Rink appears to be back on track with the town naming a new developer for the project. Over the next month, Dedham-based company E Street LLC, which also owns the skating rink there, will work with Braintree officials to plan constructing the facility. The athletic complex will be built at Braintree High School near the intersection of Granite and Town Streets. The school plans to use it for its hockey and swimming teams, but both would also be available for the public to use.
E Street LLC takes over the project from BSC Partners, following the original developer's struggles securing financing for the $20 million project, struggles which included a dispute with the developer's building company over construction costs. Those disputes grinded construction work to a halt even after the town held an official groundbreaking ceremony for the rink last October. Very little work was actually completed after the ceremony, but town officials believe progress is going to be made soon.
"This agreement marks an important milestone in our continued efforts to bring the Petersen Pool and Rink Project to our town," the mayor's office said. "We remain committed and confident that we will all soon be able to benefit from the generous gift from the Petersen family."
