Braintree Pizzapalooza 2016 Finds the Best Slice in Town

Over 2,000 people helped raise over $14,000 for the Braintree Fourth of July celebration.

Braintree, MA — Four years running and the Braintree Pizzapalooza keeps growing.

Tuesday night, the annual Fourth of July fundraiser was held at Braintree High School. With over 2,000 attendees and $14,000 raised, organizers called it the biggest Braintree Pizzapalooza in history.

As for the competition, 14 local establishments provided over 150 pies each to residents and judges to find the finest slice in town. In the Judge's Choice, California Pizza Kitchen was the winner.

WEEI personality Jerry Thornton was present to hand out the three awards voted on by the people. In the Kid's Choice category, Rosie's was the winner. In the Specialty category, Easy Pie came out on top. In the closest vote in event history, Montilio's won the people's choice award for Best Traditional Pizza by one vote.

In addition to the pizza, attendees could enjoy games and snow cones outside. Thornton, well known for his love of everything Patriots, thanked the crowd for trying the pies and participating in "Soak it to Goodell." Located near the cafeteria, the object of the game was to simply throw a water balloon at a photo of the NFL commissioner.

All money raised at the event goes towards the Fourth of July celebration on June 25.
