Braintree Police Say Man was Texting While Drunk Driving

Braintree police say that an Abington man was texting while drunk driving early Sunday morning.
Ryan Christopher, 22, was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday on charges of drunken driving, texting while driving, and a marked lanes violation.
At 12:47 a.m. on March 1, an officer saw Christopher driving a vehicle down Washington Street towards Holbrook. According to the police report, the vehicle appeared to be traveling over the 30 mph speed limit.

At a red light, Christopher’s vehicle allegedly remained stopped for about 30 seconds after the light turned green before traveling down the road.
While pulled over, police described Christopher’s eyes as glassy and bloodshot, telling the operator that he was pulled over because he almost swerved into a snowbank. Christopher admitted to the officer that he was texting and said he was coming from work in Seekonk where he had two beers when if he was drinking.

Christopher was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. His license was suspended after refusing a breathalyzer test.
Christopher is free on his own personal recognizance and is due back in court on May 12.
