Braintree Police Warn Seniors About 'Grandparent Scam'

"The grandparents scam" prays on elderly who are told their loved ones need bail money. Police said the scammers are "extremely convincing."

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police are warning residents to be vigilant about the calls they take as elderly residents become targets in what's being called "the grandparents scam." Police said two seniors fell victim to scams last week.

Normally these scams are only conducted over the phone, but police said this time, one of the scams involved "couriers" coming to physically pick up money. In the past, this has only been done through wire transfers. Police said the same thing has happened in Quincy over the last few weeks,
