At the Feb. 2 meeting ofthe Rotary Club, Mark O’Sullivan was installed as a new
member. O’Sullivan, a long-time Braintree resident and 1985 graduate, was sponsored by Virginia Polio for membership.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame (BA in English), where he played varsity ice hoekey (goalie) and wrote for The Notre Dame Observer, O’Sullivan’s interest in hockey continued. He helped found the O’Sullivan Hockey Academy, teaching sports and life skills to youth in Boston and on the South Shore.
O’Sullivan is a financial advisor with Integrated Financial Partners/Lincoln Financial Advisors Inc., located in Marina Bay, Quincy. He and his team of advisors take an independent and objective approach to investment planning to help their clients achieve their goals while reducing risks. O’Sullivan has won numerous industry awards and holds many financial service licenses.
In sponsoring O’Sullivan for membership, Polio stated, “The first time I met Mark was at a Senior Service Network meeting, and I announced that our Spelling Bee needed some additional participants two days hence. A Tiger’s Eye Quill and Scroll Honoree at Thayer and Grub Street Boston Writers’ Veteran, Mark approached me and offered to perform – and he did. He was doing community service Work before we even discussed Rotary. This made me believe that he was a ‘keeper’ – in Rotary terms a prospective new member.”
After attending several Weekly meetings, filling out the application form, being approved by the Board of Directors, and completing a Rotary Information session, Mark had been prepped for Rotary membership.
In conducting the installation ceremony, Assistant District Governor Caryn Smith of Caryn’s Corner in Quincy advised O’Sullivan, “The members ofthe Braintree Rotary Club elected you to membership because they believe you will be a worthy representative of your respective calling and that you possess qualities that will permit you to exemplify the true spirit of Rotary in your public, business, social, and private life.
Smith advised O’Sullivan, “The honor and privilege of Rotary membership carries with it duties and obligations. You are expected to attend the c1ub’s Weekly meetings with regularity. You will be assigned your share of club service duties. You will be asked to utilize your unique talents to help the club perform community service; and you will be asked to participate in the various fundraisers, by which the club serves, not only the local community, but also the larger World community.”
O’Sullivan received his official Rotary pin, which he said he will wear with pride.
Among his main focuses will be emphasizing literacy awareness and lifelong education via public speaking and social media.
