Braintree Schools Denied Waiver, Must Hold 180 Days of Schools

The community is invited to take a survey to help decide how the schools make up the snow days.

Somehow and someway, the Braintree Public Schools will have 180 days of school.

Recently, the Braintree schools announced that their request for a waiver from the Commissioner of Education to not make up one day of school was denied.

As it stands, kindergarten through grade 9 will end on June 30, the last possible day to have school while grades 10 and 11 will need to add a day somewhere in the schedule. Grade 12 and graduation are not affected by the snow days.

With a full school year now certain, the district is now asking the community how they should make up the day. Parents, staff, and students are invited to fill out a survey on how the snow days should be made up. Options include using April vacation, extended days, Good Friday, and Saturdays.

Those taking the poll are also asked for their preference on ways to allow for an earlier last day of school on the calendar for the 2015-16 school year.

The last day to take the survey is March 8. The school committee is expected to take the results into consideration when discussing the issue at their March 9 meeting.
