Braintree to Celebrate Birthday of John Quincy Adams

The Birthday of John Quincy Adams, Sixth President of the United States, who was born in Braintree on July 11, 1767, will be celebrated by the Braintree Bi-Centennial Time Capsule Society, the Braintree Historical Society, Braintree Post 86 American Legion, Braintree Chapter 29 Disabled American Veterans, Braintree Post 1702 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Braintree Veterans Council, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Time Capsule Cairn on the Braintree Town Hall Mall.

Four miniature United States Flags will be placed around the cairn by the veterans organization commanders and Braintree Historical Society President Matthew Mees, in costume as Braintree born John Hancock.

The four flags will be placed in honor of the Presidents of the United States who were born in Braintree: John Hancock as President of the Second Continental Congress, John Hancock once again as President under the Articles of Confederation, and John Adams and John Quincy Adams as second and sixth Presidents of our Constitutional government.

Following the ceremony at the cairn participants will go to the Town Clerk's office to view the original birth records of John Hancock, John Adams, and John Quincy Adams, which will be placed on display.
