Councilor John Mullaney Won't Seek Reelection

Mullaney has severed on the town's top board for about a decade.

BRAINTREE, MA — With 13 months remaining on his term, District 2 Town Councilor announced Tuesday that he will not run for reelection.

The announcement came towards the end of the council's meeting. Mullaney has as a selectman and a councilor for about a decade with an additional six years on the town's finance committee in the old form of government.

"I have little influence in the decision making of Braintree and for that reason, tonight I am announcing that I will not run for reelection as District 2 councilor," he said.

After the meeting, Mullaney said he decided not to run again a few days earlier. After his announcement, other councilors thanked him for his time served.

"I know it’s a tough decision to make and whether we agree or disagree we always come to some sort of compromise. I’ve enjoyed our debates in the past and I'm sure I'll enjoy out debates in the future," Councilor Charles Kokoros said.

"Thank you for your friendship, thank you for your knowledge. I appreciate the way you’ve treated me," Councilor Thomas Bowes said.

Mullaney said he will serve out his term.
