Creator of 'America Runs on Dunkin' Trades Fast Food for Fast Care in Braintree

Doctors Express was founded in Baltimore in 2005 by an emergency room physician seeking a more efficient, affordable and personable system for urgent care patients.

On June 9, the Braintree, MA, area will benefit from a new concept in health care when Kevin Moehlenkamp opens Doctors Express Urgent Care Center after a long and distinguished career in advertising.

Doctors Express Urgent Care Centers are state-of-the-art, walk-in urgent care facilities that provide an alternative to over-crowded emergency rooms for non-emergency treatment, as well as places for patients to be seen when their doctor’s office is closed. The Braintree Doctors Express will be located at 485 Granite Street.

Patients at Doctors Express are, without exception, seen by a doctor who is trained to handle severity of illnesses from Level 1-4, giving them an advantage over most urgent care centers that typically do not handle Level 4 cases. Doctors Express physicians and medical staff utilize the latest in medical technology — including electronic medical records, digital X-rays, and an on-site lab — to treat patients with urgent but non-life threatening illnesses and injuries, from colds and flu to fractures and sprains. In addition, Doctors Express is a dependable, accessible source for employment and sports physicals, drug screenings, occupational medicine, and travel immunizations. Most insurance plans are accepted, including Medicare.

“Doctors Express is an exciting new healthcare brand that is all about offering patients a whole new level of service and accessibility to great doctors,” says Moehlenkamp, whose expert brand knowledge was honed over a 25-year career in the advertising industry. Starting as an art director at JWT Advertising in New York City, Moehlenkamp served at six agencies in four different cities across the country before his career brought him back to Boston seven years ago where, as Chief Creative Officer, he helped grow Hill Holiday into the #1 agency based on the strength of such successful campaigns as Dunkin Donuts’ “America Runs on Dunkin.”

In addition to Dunkin Donuts, Moehlenkamp personally oversaw award-winning work for global clients such as Budweiser, FedEx, Microsoft, Visa, CVS, General Motors and HBO, for which he won an Emmy. His work can be seen at kmoehlenkamp.com, password: retude.

“One of the things that really attracted us to opening a Doctors Express is that we believe it’s a simple, timely concept that has the potential to become one of those memorable brands people talk about and love,” says Moehlenkamp. “Doctors Express brings a patient-focused approach to health care that we believe is long overdue. I have been building successful brands for other companies for many years and always wanted to help build one of my own someday. Doctors Express was the first brand I believed in strongly enough to put my money where my mouth was and take that leap”

Kevin and wife Lee, residents of Hingham, MA, will launch this new concept following the successes of Master Franchisees, Richard F.P. Crews and James M. Brennan, both of Longmeadow, MA, who opened the region’s first center in Springfield, MA. The Springfield center broke patient-visit-count records of all new Doctors Express Urgent Care Centers in the nation. This ensures the Moehlenkamps a strong foundation for success on which to base the much-needed center in Braintree.

“We are already seeing that Massachusetts is ready for the quality and convenience of Doctors Express, and are excited to be the ones bringing this new healthcare option to our busy south shore community,” says Lee. “And we’re right on Granite Street across from the South Shore Plaza, so everyone down here practically knows how to get to us blindfolded!”

According to state data released in 2010, emergency room visits rose by 9 percent from 2004 to 2008, to about 3 million visits a year.  In addition, the American Medical Association (AMA) reports that it takes an average of 18 days to get an appointment with an internist and 30 days to be seen by a specialist.

“The average wait time to see a physician at a Doctors Express is around 25 minutes, with an overall experience of under an hour, and we accept most insurance,” says Lee Moehlenkamp. “Insured patients can expect lower co-payments than that of an emergency room visit (patients will also have the option of paying cash at a reduced fee) and we help reduce the congestion of our local emergency rooms by offering patients other options for immediate medical needs that aren’t life threatening.”

The Moehlenkamps have already hired their lead physician, Dr. Arnold Soslow, a resident of Wayland, MA, and a board-certified physician of emergency medicine and pediatrics. Joining the team will be Len Giatas of East Sandwich, MA, as Vice President, Development. In addition, the Moehlenkamps are currently hiring for twelve other positions, including medical assistants and X-Ray Technicians.

The Braintree, MA, Doctors Express Urgent Care Center will be open seven days a week, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The direct line to the new center will be (781) 848-CARE. More information can be found online at doctorsexpressbraintree.com.

As of June 2012, the Braintree site will be the second Doctors Express Urgent Care Center located in the state and the first in the Greater Boston area. Other Massachusetts locations include the recently opened center in Springfield, with additional centers scheduled to open during 2012 in North Andover, West Springfield, Bellingham, Dedham, Natick, Watertown, and Saugus.
