Dangerousness Hearing Moved For Man Shot By Braintree Police

Braintree police shot and arrested Stephen Rizzo after authorities said he pointed a pellet gun at an officer.

BRAINTREE, MA — A dangerousness hearing for a Braintree man who was shot by an officer after police said he pointed a pellet gun at them will take place on May 18.

The court date for Stephen Rizzo, 59, was originally scheduled for Monday, but had to be moved because Rizzo is still in the hospital, the Patriot Ledger reported. Rizzo was arraigned last week at South Shore Hospital and was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Officials with Norfolk District Attorney's office said the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m., May 2 outside a home in the 100th block of Grove Street According to authorities, Rizzo was waving a pellet gun outside, refused to drop it and pointed it at an officer. Officers, believing the gun may have been real, shot Rizzo, according to authorities.

Rizzo may be held without bail if a judge considers him too dangerous to be release.
