K9 Kitt Statue Will Be Unveiled At Braintree Police Memorial
K9 Kitt was killed when police responded to a domestic violence situation in June 2021. A bronze statue will memorialize him.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree Police Memorial will be celebrated at a rededication ceremony this week, and a special member of the police force is being memorialized.
K9 Kitt, the department's late police K9 who was shot in the line of duty in 2021, will now have a bronze statue in his image outside the Braintree police station for years to come. The statue will be unveiled at a ceremony on Thursday at the 282 Union St. station.
Thursday's ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. and, according to the Braintree Police Working Dog Foundation, a free cup of coffee will be available to those in attendance.

Cushing was Kitt's partner and is responsible for the creation of the K9 Kitt Foundation in June 2022. The foundation’s goal is to provide medical relief to injured K9s across the country, officials said. Funds raised by the foundation support K9 teams nationwide by assisting with equipment, training, and public awareness.
In November of last year, South Shore Plaza also announced they planned to create a memorial for Kitt that would be placed in the mall's food court.
