Kristin's Breakfast a Pleaser for All Ages

The restaurant, a small diner on Washington Street in Braintree Square, is an award-winner and for good reason.

Since opening in 2003, has been voted “Best of Braintree: Best Spot for Breakfast” for three consecutive years. This intimate diner offers outstanding food at amazing prices. The wait staff is efficient, accommodating and friendly, often recognizing regulars and taking the time from their hectic work day to actually talk to them.

The pancakes are fluffy, filling and fairly cheap, as a stack of three blueberry pancakes will only set you back $4.79. The array of sides, like toast and even homemade muffins are affordable as well. A side of delicious homefries is only $1.29 and one of those yummy homemade muffins comes in at only $2.25.

One of the most impressive things about Kristin’s, besides the relaxed ambiance, is the diner’s expansive “blackboard specials” list. This list, on a blackboard (go figure) above the counter, contains myriad options of pancake flavors, including white chocolate macadamia, cookie dough, apple cinnamon and coffee cake. Specialty French toast options include, but certainly aren’t limited to, banana bread and pecan praline.

Maybe you’re not a pancake or French toast lover; well, there are an expansive number of choices for you as well! A plain, three-egg omelet is only $3.95 and every other omelet choice comes in at less than seven dollars. If you don’t see an omelet to your liking, they encourage you to create your own. Two eggs, homefries and toast will only cost you $2.95. A bowl of plain oatmeal is $1.95, and adding banana or raisins will only boost the price up to $2.50.

Another standout that this spot offers, is its child-friendly environment. The “children’s special” includes one egg, one pancake or piece of French toast and bacon or one sausage. The best part is that this meal for the kiddies only costs $2.95, making it a lot easier on the wallet when you take your picky preschooler out for a bite. There are tables large enough for families and I’ve never heard a crying infant in this place. Call it good acoustics, but I call it hungry kids happily noshing on some delicious grub.

While curbside parking spots are usually limited, I’ve never had a problem parking across the street or around the corner. The diner is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Located at 349 Washington St. in Braintree Square, Kristin’s offers breakfast, lunch and takeout at fantastic prices. No matter what you order here, you can be sure it will be delicious, definitely within your price range and served with a smile.
