Man Punches Driver In South Shore Plaza Holiday Traffic: PD

The drivers competed for positioning and collided trying to leave the parking garage. Police said the man got out and punched the victim.

BRAINTREE, MA — The stress of traffic and holiday shopping got to one man at the South Shore Plaza last weekend, according to police. A Quincy man was arrested after police said he punched another driver through his open window out of frustration with the parking garage traffic.

Daniel Delaney, 56, was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious damage to a motor vehicle and negligent driving. Police told the Patriot Ledger, Delaney and the victim were trying to leave a mall parking garage around 3 p.m., on Sunday. The drivers competed for positioning and eventually collided when Delaney tried turning onto Common Street. Police said Delaney got out and punched the other driver through his open window. When the victim tried to get out of his car, he forgot to put it in park and was dragged several feet. He was taken to the hospital, police said.

Delaney was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday and was released on personal recognizance. He's due back in court Jan. 29.
