New Braintree Police Chief Sworn-In

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree's next police chief has been officially sworn in, marking the peak of a rise through the department for Timothy Cohoon.

Cohoon, who served as Deputy Chief until the recent departure of Mark DuBois, was sworn in at a ceremony at Town Hall on Friday.

Cohoon began his career with Braintree's department in 1996.

Since then, he has held positions in patrol, K9, narcotics supervisor, Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council Special Operations and was the Deputy Chief of Operations under Dubois.

"With great pride and confidence, I have appointed Deputy Chief Cohoon as the new Police Chief of Braintree," Kokoros said at the time of his hiring.

"His passion for public service and his dedication to our community make him the ideal leader for our police force. I have witnessed Deputy Chief Cohoon's outstanding work firsthand for over twenty years, and I am certain that under his guidance, the Braintree Police Department will continue to serve with excellence."

Cohoon has over 27 years of experience in law enforcement and recently graduated from the exclusive FBI National Academy.

The appointment comes after DuBois began his new role in Portland on July 31.

Dubois has been the chief in Braintree since 2019 and served as chief in Maynard, Mass. for seven years prior. He marks the first permanent chief for Portland since 2021.
