No Debt Exclusion Needed for East Middle School Renovation: Mayor Sullivan
The project will not require a debt exclusion or any sort of extra tax hike.

BRAINTREE, MA — The East Middle School renovation will not require any extra funding beyond the town budget, Mayor Joseph Sullivan recently said.
Sullivan said that a debt exclusion will not be needed for the project, a rare move for communities with large capital projects. In many towns, a temporary tax increase approved by a vote at the polls is needed before a town can move forward with a major project.
"Our financial health is strong. It's been a focus for us for a number of years. We are prepared to incorporate in our budget," Sullivan said at a recent school committee meeting. "We have the ability to pay for the building within our budget."

Sullivan said $1 million will be set aside in the next three fiscal years to help pay for the estimated $60 million project, along with funds which are currently being used to pay off other debts.
The project goes in front of the Massachusetts School Building Authority next week.
