Measles is a highly contagious virus that is spread through the air through coughing and sneezing. One of the tricky things about the virus is that it may remain in the environment for up to two hours after the infectious person has left the area, health officials said. Symptoms of measles include white spot inside the mouth, inflamed eyes and sore throat.

This is the state's first confirmed measles case so far this year.
