Smith Beach in Braintree, Wollaston Beach Among South Shore Beaches Closed For High Bacteria Counts
High bacteria counts are causing some beaches to close.

Five beaches on the South Shore are not open today due to high bacteria counts.
The Milton Street section of Wollaston Beach in Quincy, Smith Beach in Braintree, Darcy’s Beach and the Newport Avenue Beach in Hull, and Green Harbor Beach in Marshfield were all closed this week.
Newport Avenue Beach had four times the limit of bacteria and Smith Beach had double the limit.

Rain washing contamination into the water has caused most of the impact.
The other 60 South Shore beaches that were tested are open. The other five will go though retests.

Below are the full results of testing that took place on June 20:
- Newport Beach - 405 CFU/100 ml
- Smith Beach - 210 CFU/100 ml
- Wollaston Beach (Milton Street area) - 122 CFU/100 ml
- Green Harbor Beach - 108 CFU/100 ml
- Darcey's Beach - 187 CFU/100 ml
