9 Hospitalized In South Shore Plaza Chipotle Chemical Spill

A portion of the South Shore Plaza was evacuated due to a chemical spill, according to reports.

BRAINTREE, MA — The South Shore Plaza has been reopened following a chemical spill at Chipotle that caused at least a partial evacuation. The Braintree Police Department confirmed the spill early Friday evening and said the area around the mall had been evacuated and closed.

Video at the scene shows a large fire response. Quincy and Weymouth provided mutual aid, according to scanner reports.

Braintree Fire officials told reporters at the scene that workers at the restaurant dropped a cleaning solution and caused a chemical reaction when they tried to clean it with another product.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor burns and eight more were taken as a precation.

The mall reopened at about 6 p.m.
