State OKs Shastany As Full-Time Braintree Police Chief

The police chief is now exempt from work limits for retired public workers.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree's top cop now has permission from the state to work beyond the limits set for retirees.

Gov. Charlie Baker recently signed a home rule petition allowing Police Chief Paul Shastanty to work full-time for the department. Shastany, who retired as the Stoughton Police Chief last year, retuned to work at the interim Braintree Police Chief later that year in the wake of the Braintree Police Department's evidence room scandal.

By state law, retired workers can only log 120 days of work a year in the private sector. With the signed legislation, Shastany can work a full schedule and remain the police chief until November 2019, when he turns 65.
