Study Shows Bad Results For East Braintree Air Quality
The study was done by the group Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station.

BRAINTREE, MA — Opponents of the proposed compressor station to be located near the Fore River in North Weymouth are now asking Braintree to be an ally in their fight.
Members of the Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station and Dorchester pediatrician Dr. Curtis Nordgaard appeared in front of the town council with an air-quality study that one councilor called alarming. Nordgaard, who volunteers with the group, said that an East Braintree air test produced 15 toxins, including eight that were well above state standards. He said that some of the toxins were double and triple the levels deemed safe by state regulations.
“We have documentation that the air quality in this area is actually worse than Boston and there are a number of pollutants that exceed what is safe,” Nordgaard said.

The council were also asked to find ways to improve air quality in the area and said they would look into ways they can oppose the compressor station. State Senators John Keenan and Walter Timilty said they would continue the fight at the State House.
The station is part of Spectra’s Access Northeast Project, which would pump gas from the area to Canada. The project was supposed to be operational two years ago but remains tied up in a legal battle.
