Too Hot For Crime? MA Police Ask Criminals To Take Weekend Off
As temps flirt with triple digits, police are asking would-be lawbreakers to "binge Stranger Things season 3" instead.
Police are hoping to take a break from cops and robbers this weekend, imploring would-be criminals to stay inside. Forecasters predict the most oppressive heat will be Saturday and Sunday, when temperatures will flirt with triple digits. The heat index – how hot it feels when you go outside – will reach as high as 112 degrees.
Police are banking on that being too hot to break the law. The Braintree Police Department on Friday cheekily asked miscreants to take a couple days off, catering to their 80s nostalgia and love of the martial arts.
"Stay home, blast the AC, binge Stranger Things season 3, play with the face app, practice karate in your basement," police wrote on Facebook after declaring it "hot as soccer balls" (no word from the National Weather Service on whether that's the official forecast).

Malden police followed suit Saturday, putting criminal activity "officially on hold." But they did warn they have officers "ready and hydrated."

While police are having a bit of fun with the unseasonable weather, temperatures this high can be dangerous, weather officials warn. People can be at higher risk for heat stroke and heat exhaustion during prolonged exposure to outside temperatures. It's suggested people – including criminals – wear light clothing, stay out of the sun, avoid physical exertion and remain hydrated.
