Unwanted/expired prescription drugs may now be disposed of at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off (in original containers with personal info removed or blacked out). Sharps (needles & syringes) may also be dropped off, but must be in RED SHARPS CONTAINERS.
Electronics Collection
The Friends of are collecting TVs, computer monitors, all types of electronics, tires and batteries at the Sept. 24 HHWD event from 9 a.m. to noon. Small fees for all items (typically $10-$20, depending on size).
Resident Trash Drop-Off
The Covanta/SEMASS resident trash drop-off will stay open through October on Saturdays until 3 p.m. The Saturday noon closing will be in effect Nov. 1. A Trash Sticker is necessary to use this service. Call 781-794-8132 for sticker information. This service is for regular household trash, not for remolding projects or cleanouts.
Small Remodeling Project Disposal
ALL residents of Braintree can use the Covanta/SEMASS vendor site (where the trucks line up to dump) to dispose of DEP banned wood, plaster, fencing, overweight and other materials from do-it-yourself projects – material that cannot be picked up at curbside.
A Braintree driver’s license is necessary (a trash sticker is not) and payment can be made only with a credit card. The cost to dispose of material is 10 cents a pound. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 781-843-6209 (Covanta Transfer Station) for more information.
Cleanouts
Curbside trash service and the resident drop-off are not intended for the occasional cleanouts we all find necessary. Call a private service for proper disposal, and they can supply containers or dumpsters to assist you at reasonable costs.
