Bad News, Some Good News In Braintree Police Activity Log

Police data released Tuesday show a disturbing rise in some crimes and crises, although others have fallen.

BRAINTREE, MA — Police say thefts are down in Braintree, but there’s been a troubling increase in the number of other crimes and crises.

Numbers released Tuesday by the Braintree Police Department show larceny and shoplifting during the first quarter of this year fell 33% from the 2025 level. There were 186 incidents from January to March.

But domestic violence soared 25% in the quarter-to-quarter comparison. Police responded to 80 of those incidents during the first three months of 2026.

In addition, responses to mental health concerns increased 21%, and calls about other “disturbances” rose 19%.

Overall, the BPD responded to 6,262 calls, a 6.5% jump, and made 111 arrests, a 2% increase.

“While reductions in theft-related incidents are encouraging, increases in domestic violence, mental health-related calls, and disturbances – as well as the overall rise in calls for service and arrests – underscore the importance of continued support services and community partnerships,” the police department said in a statement.
