Brockton Lawmaker Warns of Rumored ICE Raid
A Facebook post by State Rep. Michelle DuBois is causing a stir online.

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton lawmaker is telling undocumented residents of the city to not open the door if they don't know who is knocking. And it's causing a stir.
In a post on her Facebook Page, State Rep. Michelle DuBois wrote that she was told by a person in the Latin community that the Immigration and Customs Agency would be in Brockton Tuesday and Wednesday for a raid.
"I have a message for the immigrant community of Brockton. Please be careful on Wednesday 29. ICE will be in Brockton on that day," she wrote. "If you are undocumented don't go out on the street. If there is a knock on the door of your house and you don't know who it is, don't open the door. I ask you to be careful."

DuBois said she was forwarding a rumor that she says is known over Brockton and defended her post as helping make ICE aware that residents know about a rumored raid.
The post caused a strong backlash, with several responses on her page, some explicit in nature, objecting to the warning.

In a statement, MassGOP Chairperson Kirsten Hughes said, "Rep. DuBois has demonstrated a complete disregard for her constituents’ safety, and she should be ashamed of these reckless comments".
In an update Tuesday afternoon, DuBois said, "If this is what happens to an elected representative - what must be happening to immigrants every day in our Nation, both documented and not documented. There are many people in Brockton (documented and not) as well as people across this Nation who are terrified."
She also objected to Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson's remarks from earlier in the day that elected officials from sanctuary cities should be arrested.
DuBois added that she hopes that those who disagree with her on this issue can work with her on other issues.
