BROCKTON, MA - Brockton city officials honored three Brockton police officers, as well as K-9 Gerry, who helped locate a teen boy stuck in waist-deep icy waters last week and pulled him to safety. Patrol Officers Bill Stafford, Sandy Fonseca and John Sturdevant, plus Gerry, were honored for their heroic and life-saving service Monday night.
Brockton and Easton police officers were hailed for saving the life of the Brockton teen last Tuesday afternoon after they pulled a 13-year-old boy from icy, muddy water behind a house on Goldfinch Drive. Officers used footprints in the snow and Gerry's tracking instincts to find the boys stuck up to his chest in icy, muddy water. Officers then carefully pulled him to safety.
The boy was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital, then transferred to Boston's Children's Hospital where he was recovering later last week.
