2 Children Found Dead In Brockton Apartment

Two children have been reportedly stabbed to death.

BROCKTON, MA — Two children were found stabbed to death in a Brockton apartment Monday. The children, aged 5 and 8, were found after a well-being check on the address, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said. The children have been identified as brothers and their mom has been charged.

Latarsha Sanders, 43, was taken into custody Monday afternoon, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz announced. She is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court on two charges of murder.

"We're all very upset right now but we're doing our best to assist the investigators," Mayor Bill Carpenter told reporters at a press conference across the street from the three-story apartment building on Prospect Street where the children were found.

Authorities have revealed only a few details because of the ongoing nature of the investigation. Cruz declined to discuss the motive or release the victims' names during a press conference Monday night.

"A terrible thing happened in this apartment and we need to get to the bottom of it," Cruz said.

A woman was also taken away in an ambulance, but the DA did not offer information on her.

Carpenter said the DA's office is leading the investigating with assistance from the Brockton Police Department is assisting the investigation, but the DA's office was taking the lead.

Earlier in the day the mayor's office sent out a robo call to school committee members and city councilors confirming the deaths of the school-aged children, Carpenter said.

Investigators said anyone who noticed anything out of place in the area recently should contact the Brockton Police Department.

Investigators said they had no reason to believe there was any immediate danger to others in the neighborhood and that there was no lockdown for those residents.
