Prosecutors say the group altered tax refund checks to shell companies, funneled them through business accounts, and used complex transactions to hide the money's origins before withdrawing the proceeds.
   

4. Former MBTA employee pleads guilty to falsifying Red Line inspection reports (wwlp.com) — A 43-year-old Brockton resident, former MBTA track inspector Jensen Vatel, has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges tied to falsifying Red Line inspection reports and overtime records. Prosecutors say he and co-workers skipped required inspections, faked reports, and collected pay for hours they didn't work, crimes that each carry potential multi-year prison sentences and hefty fines.
