Brookline Town Hall To Undergo $600K Roof Replacement

BROOKLINE, MA — A roof replacement project at Town Hall is set to begin on Monday, July 20, bringing temporary changes to parking, building access, and pedestrian routes for approximately four to five weeks.

The project was originally scheduled to begin on July 10 but was delayed due to a delivery issue. Town officials said Town Hall will remain open and fully operational throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in four to five weeks, weather permitting.

Contractors will install security fencing around the front of the building and designated equipment staging areas during the project. Visitors approaching from the Town Hall parking lot will not be able to access the main entrance directly. Instead, they will be directed to use the auxiliary side entrance or walk around to Holden Street or Washington Street to reach the front doors via the sidewalk.

The Town Hall parking lot will operate as a one-way roadway for the duration of construction, with vehicles entering from Holden Street and exiting onto Pierce Street. Fifteen parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable to accommodate a crane, roofing materials, and construction dumpsters. Accessible parking will also be relocated, with three spaces available in the corner of the Town Hall parking lot near the Pierce School and one space on Holden Street. In addition, the pedestrian shortcut between the Brookline Village Library and the area between Town Hall and the Pierce School will be closed until the project is complete.

The roof replacement is part of a broader capital improvement initiative that includes roof replacements at Town Hall, Fire Station No. 6, and the Brookline Village Library. The work was awarded to MDM Engineering, with the Town Hall portion of the project estimated to cost approximately $600,000. Town officials said the project is funded through the town's Capital Improvement Project Funds.
