Bird and Lime e-scooters pull out of Raleigh, N.C.
Bird calls city regulations "burdensome"; five other companies apply to fill the void

The Raleigh News & Observer reports that the decision appears based both on an increased per-scooter fee imposed on Bird and Lime by the city ($300 per scooter) and a cap of 500 scooters per company.
Meanwhile, five other companies -- Gotcha, Lyft, Bolt, Spin and VeoRide -- have applied to take their place.
A Bird spokesman pointed to Charlotte, N.C. as a city where local officials and scooter vendors have agreed on regulations that work for all concerned.
