A sample of the types of calls that came in the past two weeks to the Brookline Police Department.

BROOKLINE, MA — Every day the Brookline Police officers respond to multiple calls. This is a sample of the types of calls they respond to, taken from the public police logs and the Brookline police blog online. Just because this is the way someone called in a report, doesn't mean that's how it shook out.

Friday, Sept. 14

Window smashed: During a building check officers saw a smashed window at the high school on Greenough and Lowell road.

Babysitter spooked: A Clark Road resident called to report someone tried to break into the home just around 9 p.m. The babysitter told the resident that in the earlier evening she turned off all the lights inside and outside of the home and locked the doors. At approximately 8:45 p.m. she heard someone attempting to open the rear door of the home. She said she believed the home owner was returning home so she walked to the back door and turned on the outside light. She then saw a white middle-aged man with facial hair wearing a black hooded sweatshirt look up at her and quickly turn and run through the backyard toward Sumner Road. When the home owner arrived home shortly after, they called the police.

NETA: Someone reported an employee stole something at New England Treatment Access around 3:40 p.m.

They took the sink: A Davis Avenue resident called to report someone stole a sink from his home.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Bitten: An employee at Epoch Center Nursing home on Heath Street called to report that two patients got into a fight and one bit another.

Bike stolen: Someone came to the front desk of the police station to report his bike, that was locked in front of a building near a crosswalk on Harvard Street went missing. The bike is described as a men’s Jamis Allegro bicycle, 21 speed, with straight, short handlebars, locked with a cable lock.

Fight: Someone called to report a fight on Parsons Field near the Field house around 7:20 p.m. and asked for police to help.

Enough with the food: At 7:09 p.m. a caller reported that food was delivered twice – Village Fare for $80 and wings for $80 - made payable upon delivery to his son who no longer lives there. The caller was concerned it would continue.

Sunday, Sept 16

5 bags of produce: Officers were dispatched to Harvard Street for a request for police following an assault and larceny at a store. Upon arrival an officer spoke with the store manager who reported a black male left the store with 5 bags containing produce. The suspect fled on a black bike with the bags on the handle bars and traveled up Vernon Street toward Park Street. This information was radioed to dispatch and multiple units were dispatched to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect. The reporting party also informed the officer that before the suspect left, he got into an altercation with an employee who witnessed the suspect placing items into his bag. The officer spoke with the employee who relayed he was in an aisle when he observed the suspect placing items into a bag. He began to follow the suspect down the aisle and stopped him outside. The employee looked into the bags and asked the suspect if he has a receipt which the suspect told him no. The employee attempted to hold the suspect for police by holding onto his bike, and in an attempt to get away the suspect struck the employee in the chest with a closed fist. The employee then let go of the bike. This case is being investigated.

Injured something: A passerby called to report there was some sort of injured animal in the bushes near the corner of Walnut Street and Codman Road. They said it was still alive but had lacerations.

Attacked, bitten: Someone called to report a dog ran out of a house on Winchester Street and attacked their dog as they were walking by.

Monday, Sept. 17

Frauds: Someone came into the department to report two checks were fraudulently written.

Graffiti: A Monmouth Street resident called to report graffiti on a fence.

Whoops: A Kent Street resident called to report she was cleaning and left a few things outside her apartment door but when she went back out to get them they were missing and she thinks a neighbor may have taken them.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

Assault at school?: Someone came into the police station to report a male parent and a female teacher at the Lincoln School were involved in an altercation in a utility room on Kennard Road.

Theft: Three separate reports came in about a theft from the 2 Brookline Place jobsite overnight. One worker explained to officers that welding lead was missing. Another worker reported he noticed two copper welding cables and four heavy cables with ground clamps were missing. The last report came in that four copper welding cables were missing. There were also other items taken over the weekend.

Ask before petting; At 11:25 p.m. someone called to report a woman was bitten in the face on Beacon Street. When the officer arrived they saw the woman was bleeding from the mouth with a large amount of blood on her shirt and face, receiving medical attention. An officer spoke with the dog owner who reported she was sitting at a sidewalk table with a friend and her dog by her side on a leash. She noticed two women get out of an Uber and walk toward the building she was sitting in front of. She stated suddenly, without asking for permission, the woman knelt over and grabbed the dog by the neck and ears with both hands and pushed her face toward the dogs face. She says her dog was startled and bit the woman on the face. The owner explained to the officer that her dog is a friendly rescue dog that she has had for 6 years with no previous incidents. The friend who was sitting at the table at the time of the incident stated separately that the victim suddenly approached and knelt toward the dog and placed her face into the dogs face. The dog then bit her. An officer also spoke with the victim’s friend who stated she was walking behind the victim when the victim approached the dog. She reports the victim leaned toward the dog and was bit. Brookline Health Department was notified as well as Animal Control.

An officer observed the dog to be calm and petted by a few people with no issues. Based on the initial investigation and observations it is believed that the dog was provoked by the victim when she leaned toward the dog. At this time there are no by-law violations. The dog has been placed on a 10 day quarantine.

Where's my plate? An Ivy Street resident called to report their licence plate appeared to be stolen, or fell off.

Shh: Someone called to report a white sedan had a howling dog inside near the library on Washington Street.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Burglared: An Ivy Street housekeeper told police that when she arrived at the home where she worked, a basement door window pane was broken the door was damaged and stuff was thrown around the home. Police found damage to several window screens located at the front of the house as well as the screened-in porch. A broken window pane on the door that leads into the main house from the side porch, an open basement window and damage to the door at the top of the basement stairs. Several dresser drawers were found open and appeared to have been gone through. Detectives determined that the burglar gained entry through the basement window after failing to gain entry through the porch. The house keeper explained that she tends to the home once a week. She noticed a flat screen TV was missing and a computer. The owner of the home was contacted and informed of the break in and larceny.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Lock your car: Someone reported their car was broken into and a laptop stolen from the backseat while it was parked on Harvard Avenue on Sept. 17. A report of a break, entering and larceny of a motor vehicle was made on 9/20/18. The incident occurred on Harvard Ave. He reported that his vehicle was left unlocked and the brand new laptop was still inside the box.

Stolen car: A Francis Street resident reported his 2007 Gray Toyota Sienna Van stolen from his two car driveway. He last saw his van the night before and noticed it missing on around 6:30 a.m.. He reported all the doors of the van had been locked. Family members who live with him are the only individuals with key access to the vehicle.

Friday, Sept. 21

Shoplifting: An employee at Gap flagged down an officer on Harvard Street and let them know a white man wearing a dark blue t-shirt, gray shorts, gray sneakers, with a Boston Red Sox shoulder bag entered the store from the Harvard Street side and made his way over to the merchandise table, where women’s t-shirts were sitting. The employee reported she then saw the man quickly start making his way toward the rear entrance of the store with what appeared to be a white GAP brand t-shirt with tags still on it. He exited the store around 10:50 a.m. to the Centre St lot and left in an unknown direction. Officers canvassed the area with nothing showing. Surveillance footage confirms the employees reported information.

Rifled through purse: Someone reported that around 1 p.m. she was alone and went out back of a studio to take the trash out while there were no customers inside. After she came back she noticed her purse had been gone through and her wallet was missing.

Stolen moped: A Summit Avenue resident called to report his black, Genuine Roughouse Moped that was chained to a basketball hoop in their driveway was stolen overnight. The chain was found still locked and attached to the basketball hoop stand. The lock had been attached to the front wheel of the scooter.

Saturday, Sept. 22

Don't leave valuables:- A woman called to report her wallet was stolen from her boyfriend's car while it was parked on Fuller Street. Later she was notified by police that her wallet was found.

Stolen wallet: A woman told an officer she was shopping on Beacon Street and when she went to the register to pay for her items she noticed her wallet was missing. She said while she was shopping, her wallet was in her purse which was open at the top and the wallet was visible.

Dog saves the day: A Washington Street resident called at 8:46 p.m. to report someone tried to break in while she left her children home and went to run an errand. The members, listening to music in the kitchen heard their dog barking uncontrollably. An officer then spoke to an individual present during the incident who said she was in the kitchen with her sister listening to music when the dog started to bark toward the rear of the house. A bedroom was in the rear of the house which was unoccupied at the time. The daughter who occupies the room checked the room and noticed her bedroom window screen was up and her laundry basket was pushed away from the window.

Break in: A couple hours later a Royal Road resident called to report someone broke into A break, entering and larceny report was made on Royal Road. The two residents told police they left the home around 8 p.m. They reported having had locked all the doors with the exception of the basement door. When they arrived home at approximately 10:45 p.m. they noticed the door in the foyer to the basement was opened. As they walked through the home they noticed two laptops were missing, a laptop charger and a phone charger. When they went upstairs they noticed several drawers in a bedroom opened and rummaged though. A woman’s watch was missing. The linen closet was open and the other bedroom had several drawers open and rummaged through. Items were on the floor near the closet.

Sunday, Sept. 23

Another break in: A Winthrop Road resident reported around 1:30 a.m. that their home was broken into sometime in the past day. The homeowners said that when they left the day before at 10 a.m. they closed and locked the windows and the screens were in place and the doors were all ok. They didn't set their home alarm system because of the pets, but when they came home around 1:10 a.m. they found that the master bedroom had been ransacked and the shade in one of the upstairs bedrooms had been drawn. Officers determined that it appeared that the suspect initially attempted entry through the rear sliding door but it was secured by a piece of wood. The suspect then climbed atop a gas grill on the rear deck and scaled a low hanging part of the roof whereupon it appears the suspect cut a hole in the screen of a bedroom window at the rear of the home and a small pry tool mark was observed where he unsuccessfully attempted to pry a bedroom window open. The suspect then appears to have successfully gained entry through another bedroom window where the screen and window were pried, breaking the lock off the wood window. It appears the suspect attempted entry into several rooms and stole a family heirloom. Two other breaks were reported in the same area on that day. This case is being investigated.

Stolen bike: Someone reported her bike and helmet were stolen while the bike was locked outside of her apartment building on Beacon Street. Officers were dispatched to Beacon Street for a stolen bicycle report. She said her roommate alerted her that her bike lock had been cut and the bike was missing. The bike is described as a baby blue and black Scott Aspect Mountain Bike. The bike has a sticker on the frame that reads “The Red Bicycle.” The bike has a white paint stain on the frame. It also has clip in pedals.
