BMS Faculty Artist Series Presents Music of Latin America

Brookline Music School's 17-18 Faculty Artist Series concludes on Saturday, April 7, 2018, with Music of Latin America for Violin & Piano.

Brookline Music School’s 2017-2018 Faculty Artist Series concludes on Saturday, April 7, 2018, with Music of Latin America for Violin & Piano. Duo Ibáñez, comprised of Luis A. Ibáñez, BMS violin faculty member, and pianist Jorge Ibáñez will present works by Latin American composers including Villa-Lobos, Cortinas, D’Rivera, Piazzola, and more. The concert will begin at 3:00pm and take place in the Bakalar Recital Hall at Brookline Music School (25 Kennard Road, Brookline, MA). The concert is free, with a suggested donation of $10. The 2017-2018 Faculty Artist Series comprises four diverse performances featuring the talented collective of professional musicians who make up the Brookline Music School faculty. From timeless classical masterpieces and contemporary works to jazz standards and innovative original compositions, the series presents something for everyone.

Violinist Luis A. Ibáñez, a native of La Paz, Bolivia, began playing violin at an early age under the tutelage of his father. After studying at the National Conservatory of Music in La Paz, he moved to the United States and completed a B.M. in Violin Performance at the University of Southern Maine and a M.M. in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. Currently, Mr. Ibáñez is a member of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Maine. He performs with Ritmos 3, a violin, piano, and percussion ensemble, and with Duo Ibáñez, a violin and piano ensemble. In 2014, Duo Ibáñez released “In Memoriam,” a CD of music by Bolivian composers. A strong advocate of music education for children, Mr. Ibáñez is a faculty member at Brookline Music School and Lexington Music School in Massachusetts.
