BROOKLINE, MA — Over the weekend a tractor trailer ran over a fire hydrant, a home was broken into and someone turned in a backpack full of electronics and passports. All of the following is from Brookline Police log or online blog. They are excerpts taken from the public police log and represent a portion of what kinds of calls the police respond to. Friday, July 28
Passport with an s on the end, as in plural?: Someone called to report they found a book bag on Pleasant Street with everything from passports to electronics.
Wrong way: An officer called for backup after they saw a driver take an illegal left turn off of Carlton Street and attempt to drive the wrong way on Mountfort Street just after 7 p.m. The police issued the driver a citation for Operating without a License: Never Issued and Restricted Way.

No, seriously, wrong way: A police officer saw a car make the illegal left turn from Harvard Street onto Beacon Street and stopped the car at the intersection of Beacon and Centre streets. When the officer ran the licence it came back with an alert indicating the driver had two active warrants. The officer arrested her and issued her a citation for Improper Left Turn.
Saturday, July 29
Vandalism? An Allerton Street resident called to report it looked like someone had maliciously damaged the fence. A security employee for the property was able to repair part of the damaged area, but there is still minor damage to the bottom of the fence.

Good neighbors: Someone came by the station to turn in a credit card he had found in the vicinity of Boylston Street and Washington Street. Police tracked down the owner and left a voicemail and put the credit card into safekeeping.
Hit and run: Someone called police to report his car was hit while he was parked in the parking lot on Fuller Street. The car had damage to the front bumper and left front area.
Not on purpose: Someone reported that a semi-truck had hit a fire hydrant on Washington Street. The driver told police he was making a right turn, but due to oncoming traffic was unable to make a wide turn. As a result, the rear tire of the tractor trailer knocked over the hydrant.
Sunday, July 30
Fraud: Someone called to report his identity was being used to open accounts in his name without his permission. He notified the fraud bureaus of the businesses and the three major credit bureaus.
Break in: A Walnut Street resident called to report that she and her family had returned home to find that their house had been broken into. Dispatch told her to wait for officers to arrive outside the house. Police said they found one of the panes of glass on the side of the door had been broken and it appeared someone reached through the window to unlock the door. The family told police that when they went in it looked like a few items were missing. Neighbors told police that there was car in the driveway earlier that afternoon. Police opened an investigation.
