Brookline Music School Announces the 2017-2018 Faculty Artist Series

The Faculty Artist Series season begins on Saturday October 14 with Music for Oboe, Viola, & Piano.

Brookline Music School (BMS) is proud to announce its 2017-2018 Faculty Artist Series. The Series comprises four diverse performances featuring the talented collective of professional musicians who make up the Brookline Music School faculty. From timeless classical masterpieces and contemporary works to jazz standards and innovative original compositions, the series presents something for everyone. Each concert will begin at 3:00pm and take place in the Bakalar Recital Hall at Brookline Music School (25 Kennard Road, Brookline, MA). Each event is free (suggested donation is $10) and followed by a Meet-the-Artists Reception.

The Series begins on Saturday, October 14, 2017, with Music for Oboe, Viola, & Piano. BMS oboe faculty member Catherine Weinfield-Zell is joined by Lauren Nelson, viola, for a program of trio works for this unique combination of instruments. The program will include works by Mozart, Klughardt, and Loeffler.

On Sunday, December 3, 2017, the Boston Flute Quartet, including BMS flute faculty member Anthea Kechley and guests Brandy Blakely, Ceora Jaffe, and Michael Horowitz, will perform works by Ravel, Telemann, Joplin, and more. The second half of the program will feature the Composers Saxophone Quartet: BMS saxophone faculty member Kathy Olson and guests Rick Stone, Diane Wernick, and Sean Berry. The group will present original compositions by local composers and members of the Quartet.

The Series continues on March 4, 2018, with Music for Viola, Clarinet, & Piano. BMS faculty members Stephanie Fong, viola, and Aimee Tsuchiya, piano, are joined by Rane Moore, clarinet, for a program featuring duo and trio works by Mozart, Bunch, and Rachmaninoff.

Closing the Series on April 8, 2018, BMS violin faculty member Luis Ibanez is joined by pianist Jorge Ibanez for Music from Latin America. The duo will perform works from Latin American countries and by Latin American composers.

Brookline Music School, now in its 93rd season, is a private nonprofit community school for the arts offering music instruction to people of all ages and abilities. The School serves the community by teaching in multiple locations, offering tuition assistance, and sponsoring a full schedule of concerts and public performances throughout the year.
