BROOKLINE, MA — Last week police helped solve a turkey lurking problem, responded to package theft reports and several reports of larceny. All of the following is from Brookline Police log or online blog. They are excerpts taken from the public police log and represent a portion of what kinds of calls the police respond to. May 26

Turkey Lurking: Someone called to report that a wild turkey was lurking around Pierce School on School Street. It was discovered that there was a nest with seven turkey eggs near the playground area. There was concern that the turkey may become protective of her nest and attack children at recess. Animal control responded to the location and observed the nest and contacted The Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. They said they would need to consult with their superiors to provide authorization to remove the nest. (see the rest of the story below on May 30)

May 27

Dine and dash: A Harvard Street restaurant employee called to report two people left without paying their bill. Realizing this, an employee attempted to locate the individuals but contacted the police when she was unsuccessful. The restaurants cameras were not able to be accessed at the time, but the owner was contacted. They will review the footage and will turn it over to the police if there is anything of value.

Cell phones be gone: Someone from a building on Green Street reported two cell phones went missing from the building's coat room the night before. One man was able to track his phone to a general area, but responding officers were unable to pin point an exact location.

Sunday, May 28

What?: Someone reported that five men came into a business, took various items from the front counter area and then walked out of the store without anyone at the store noticing. When the men realized none of the employees noticed they took items they went back in and began rummaging through the shelves. They then appeared to be noticed and ran out of the store. One of the men was confronted by an employee and the employee was able to take a few items from the individual who was still running toward the door. The store delayed calling the police and when police arrived the initial employee was no longer on scene. The stolen items and the surveillance footage were placed into evidence.

Monday, May 29

Keep track of valuables: A woman called to report two of her rings had been stolen while she was taking some sort of class at a studio on Harvard Street. She told police that she left her rings, watch, and glasses in a tray in a changing room. And when she came back to the changing room her rings were missing.

Tuesday, May 30

Business break in: A Harvard Street store’s manager told police that when he arrived at work this morning and began his morning duties, he found the roll up gate to the stockroom open. Upon checking security footage of the night before, the manager observed a man open the gate, look around, and enter the stock room. He is then shown exiting the store with merchandise.

Turkey problem resolution: Brookline Animal Control received authorization to remove the turkey nest at the Pierce Elementary School playground. The seven eggs were removed and transported to a wildlife rehab specialist.

Aggressive landscaping: A landscaper working on Thorndike Street explained that a contractor hired to work at the same location requested the landscaper’s materials be moved from the front of the property. According to the reporting party, the contractor began shoving the other individual while yelling at him. He also noted that another worker grabbed the reporting party from behind and pulled him away from the aggressor. He stated he was not injured during the incident. An officer spoke to the other party at the original property. He stated that the reporting party became angry with his request, swearing and spitting in his direction. He stated that after this occurred he left the area and he did not want to pursue charges or the matter with the reporting party. He also informed officers that the property owner had arrived during the incident and helped mediate the situation. When contacted, the property owner said he arrived at the scene and intervened in the argument, which he said was not physical. The reporting party informed the property owner that he attempted to spit on the other contractor after he pushed him several times. He then agreed to leave the property and return later to complete his landscaping. Both parties were advised that they would be summonsed to court.

Wednesday, May 31

Graffiti: Someone reported graffiti on Park Vale inside the carport of the building. There are several words in white writing that appear unreadable as well as an inappropriate picture.

Lock your car doors: A woman told police that someone rummaged through her car and took coins.

Cash gone: A Park Street man called to report they'd been admitted to the hospital with a large quantity of cash in his pants pocket, but that money was now missing.

Package thefts: Multiple calls came into the station reporting missing packages on Carlton Street.

Lost and found: An officer at the front desk was approached by a subject looking to turn in a found wallet. The wallet was found in the Coolidge Corner area and is described as a man's brown wallet, containing a German license, Charlie cards, two credit cards and some cash. Officers were unable to contact the owner.
