Brookline Police Officer Barry McNeilly Retires After 40 Years

BROOKLINE, MA — After 40 years of active service to the Town of Brookline Officer Barry McNeilly retired this week.

McNeilly joined the force on Dec. 1 1977, worked as a detective, worked in traffic investigation and patrol. He earned more than 18 commendations throughout his tenure, including officer of the year. His most recent commendation came about when he was chasing down an escaped Bournewood patient and plucked the patient off his getaway bike but was punched.

He worked his final shift Tuesday night.

"We thank Officer McNeilly and his family for everything they have given this town and the department over the years. Barry we wish you health and happiness in retirement. It has been our pleasure to serve by your side," the police department posted to Facebook.
