Brookline Police: Violation of Trespass Notice, Mysterious Chocolates
Crime log from Feb. 23-24. All parties have been charged but not convicted.

Feb. 23:
Scott Murphy, 59, of Chestnut Street was arrested at Brookline High School and charged with trespass after notice. Murphy was issued a trespass order last year, per which he had to notify BHS staff of his plans to enter school grounds and receive permission from school staff. He was attending a school council meeting along with several other town residents and said he had obtained permission from one of the council members. When questioned by officers, the council member said she had no knowledge of the stipulations of the order. Murphy claimed to have no knowledge as well, but an exchange between him and a police officer earlier this year requesting to attend his son’s wrestling match suggested otherwise. He was arrested without incident.

Officers observed a tall, thin white male wearing grey sweats and carrying two boxes walking down Harvard Street. On alert after a string of recent break-ins, the officers approached the man and questioned him about why he was looking through several doors of buildings. He identified himself as 54-year-old Edward Richey and told police he was on his way to visit his mother on Pleasant Street. Upon further investigation, officers determined Richey was homeless and that he had a warrant out for his arrest. He was taken into custody and questioned about boxes, which contained Lindt brand chocolate. Richey claimed he bought them in Boston, although for a price lower than what they are sold for online. Officers were suspicious about these claims; however, he was only charged with distribution of a Class A substance, possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute per his warrant.
