Brookline School Considering Possible Relocation
This school has been headquartered in the town for more than 60 years.
BROOKLINE, MA — A staple Brookline school is considering relocating from where it has been for more than half a century, according to a report from Brookline News.
The Maimonides School’s four-acre campus has been located on Philbrick Road in the vicinity of Chestnut Hill since 1962. Head of School Rabbi Yaakov Green and board chair Amy Goldman said in an email to the school community that the school’s current building was in need of multi-million dollar repairs, and that relocating might ultimately be the more financially-efficient option. The pair said if it does relocate, it aims to find a location that is equidistant to all the communities that have students enrolled at Maimonides. Another option being considered is a potential merger with the Striar Hebrew Academy, an elementary school located in the town of Sharon.
Maimonides is a private Jewish school that enrolls preschool-age students all the way through high school. The institution was founded in 1937 by Rabbi Dr. Joseph Soloveitchik in Dorchester with six students enrolled in the upstairs room of the Dorchester Hebrew School. It spent more than 20 years headquartered in Roxbury before coming to Brookline.
