BROOKLINE, MA — It's going to be a heck of a long weekend. Brookline Public Schools will not have school Friday, Jan. 5. This comes after a day off Thursday on account of the historic blizzard that slammed into the region.
Earlier today Waltham declared a snow day as did Boston. Finally just before 6 p.m. Newton announced there would be no school. Brookline was a bit more slow to decide as parents and students took to social media to wonder when the district will make the call.
About 6:15 p.m. the collective cheer went out around the town.

Does this mean the last day of school will be pushed back? Nope. Per state law, five snow days are built-in to the calendar in Brookline. June 20-26 are built-in as make-up days for any weather cancellations. If the weather's nice a couple days could get shaved off.
The district waits until April 1 (once the threat of winter storms has really passed) to make the official announcement of what the official last day of school will be.

Right now Brookline students will be in school through June 20.... but that could easily change.
