The second driver accuses the first of trying to steal his fare.

BROOKLINE, MA — On Friday morning a police officer at a school traffic post on Webster Street saw a man hanging out of a taxi being dragged several feet, screaming prompting the officer to draw his gun and order the taxi to stop.

Police arrested the driver of the taxi, Osmane Offre, 62, of Brockton for battery with a dangerous weapon (the car).

Police said a taxi driver had been waiting at the taxi stand on Webster Street near the hotel for about two hours Friday, March 23 when about 8 a.m. another taxi pulled up and a man from the hotel got in.

It was the screams from the angry taxi driver that the Brookline police officer who was on duty heard and came to investigate, walking around the corner to see the taxi driving off with the man hanging out of the back passenger side about 40 or 50 feet.

According to the police report the officer pulled his weapon out and ordered the car to stop, and the driver to get out of the car, because of the amount of children in the immediate area with Lower Devotion school drop off, and the prevalence of car ramming attacks.

After the driver got out of the car with his hands up, the gun went back into its holster, according to the report.

The man who was in the cab? A visitor from Ireland police said.
