Car Window Smashed In Broad Daylight, Laptop Stolen: Brookline Police Logs

Someone broke into a car in broad daylight to steal a laptop left out, someone ran into a pole and it fell on a car in Brookline.

They are excerpts taken from the public police log and represent a portion of what kinds of calls the police respond to. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Thursday, Aug. 17

Grocery visit and a missing tablet: A Beals Street resident called to report she thought the Amazon delivery guy stole her Kindle Tablet. She said the tablet went missing between 4:30 and 5 p.m. and the only person who'd come into her home was the Amazon grocery delivery guy. Police are following up.

Shady Vespa dealings: An Aspinwall Avenue resident called police to report that their Vespa had been taken from their driveway and now he saw someone on the street with the scooter. Officers spoke to the young man who told them he was at Pierce Playground when he bought the scooter from another guy. It appeared the vehicle’s seat lock had been broken and the key ignition hole had been tampered with. Police said they charged him with Receiving Stolen Property and Minor Possession of Air Rifle - which he had on him when they spoke with him.

Timber!: Someone called to report a driver hit a pedestrian signal pole while he was turning near the intersection of Chestnut Hill Avenue and Dean Road. Said pole then fell onto another car. There were no injuries. Police said they notified the proper authorities about about replacing the pole.

Package theft: An Englewood Avenue resident reported two packages were stolen.

Friday, Aug. 18

Shoplifter: An employee at a Harvard Street business called to report an attempted shoplifting. An employee had observed a woman place an item in her bag only to return it to the shelf when she noticed the employee. Officers also spoke with the manager of another business on Beacon Street who stated the same party had concealed items in her bag then placed some of them back on a shelf and left the store. Police located a woman matching the suspect's description. The store employees participated in a show up ID and confirmed she was the shoplifter. She was placed under arrest and the stolen items were returned to the businesses. The party will be charged with two counts of Shoplifting Under $250. While in booking, officers discovered the subject had given false information during the shoplifting arrest. Brookline Dispatch confirmed the individual had two default warrants. She was informed of the additional charges for the warrants and False Name.

Suspicious?: Police officers said while at Amory Park they noticed a man they thought was suspicious. When the man saw the police officer, he reversed directions. He was later located at the intersection of Amory and Freeman Street where he was found to be in possession of multiple types of drugs and a sum of cash which were placed into evidence. The subject was placed under arrest and is being charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B and Possession of a Class C Substance.

Hit and run: Someone called police around 2:52 p.m. to report a hit and run near the corner of Washington Street and Brookline Avenue.

Scooter crash: Someone called at 8:53 p.m. to report a scooter driver lost control and crashed on near the corner of Beacon and Winchester streets. When police got there, a passerby was helping the man who was then taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Saturday, Aug. 19

Identity theft is real: Two separate people called in to report identity thefts and compromised credit cards.

Truck vs Tree: Someone called around noon to report a driver of a box truck drove into an tree branch that was hanging over Chestnut Hill Avenue and damaged the truck.

Don't leave valuables in your car: Someone called to report their car was broken into while it was parked at a meter near the corner of Brookline Avenue and Parkway Road during the middle of the day. A woman said she noticed her rear passenger window was smashed and her laptop bag was missing. The bag was discovered in the bushes, but her laptop and other items that'd been in the bag were missing. At this time, several open packages were also observed nearby with a pair of gloves next to them. These were placed into evidence and submitted for DNA testing.

Sunday, Aug. 20

Car break ins continue: Someone reported their car was broken into overnight while it was parked on Beacon Street. She told police the contents of the glovebox had been strewn about the front seats. There was no damage to the vehicle suggesting force was used. An iPod Touch was missing. Detectives attempted to process the vehicle. While on scene, another victim stated his vehicle has been broken into and items had been rummaged through. Nothing appeared to be taken.

Broken: Officers were dispatched to a business on Cypress Street for a potential attempted breaking and entering. A pane of the front window display was completely cracked, but intact in the frame. Officers observed a small hole in the bottom corner. Based on observations, it appeared to be malicious damage rather than an attempt to break in. The reporting party was advised to contact his insurance company regarding the damage. Officers obtained security footage from a local business.

Sharp: someone Perry Street for a suspicious package containing knives. The officer took the bin and submitted them into evidence for proper disposal.
