Coolidge Corner Library To Close For 6 Months Of Renovation

BROOKLINE, MA — Beginning June 3, the Public Library of Brookline will be closed for about six months during a major renovation project, according to library officials.

The goal is to modernize the Library. And planning has been in the works for some time.

According to the library, renovations will include enclosing the children’s room to mediate sound, installing a lift to the lower-level meeting room, and moving all staff work spaces to the mezzanine.

The library will also have extensive renovations to the building itself, including a new roof, repointing the concrete, and replacing the 1970 skylight. Additionally, the library will be painted and have new carpet installed. The garden under the atrium will be completely replaced with all new plants and trees.

The Coolidge Corner Library will be closed during the renovations, which are projected to last approximately six months, according to officials. During this time, limited library services—including picking up holds, a small popular materials collection, and Wi-Fi—will be available at the Sussman House on Pleasant Street.

Planning is underway to offer additional hours at the Brookline Village and Putterham Libraries during the summer.

The Coolidge Corner Library, located at 31 Pleasant Street, will hold public tours of the planned improvements on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, at 10 a.m.

Library officials say the public is also welcome to attend informational meetings about the renovations on Sunday, May 6, 11 AM-12:30 PM and Thursday, May 10, 7-8:30 PM at the Coolidge Corner Library. The last day the library will be open is Saturday, June 2, from 9:30-5:00. The Sussman House satellite will be open on Monday, June 4 from 9-4.
