Corcoran Captures Junior Golf Tournament
No. 1 player for Brookline High School golf ends summer on a high note.

In his final tune-up before the Brookline High School golf season, senior Brian Corcoran scooped up a confidence booster.
The soon to be senior, and No. 1 player on the Warriors squad, sunk a clutch 8-footer on the second playoff hole to claim the John Trahon Junior Golf Tournament at Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course on Aug. 26.
Corcoran fired a 76 on the day, but couldn't shake good friend Jake Morgensterm, who also shot a 76. The two bogeyed their first playoff hole and had to head back to 18 tee to finish off the match.

Morgensterm had a par putt of 15 feet, but his attempt lipped out of the hole, allowing Corcoran to steal the spotlight and the match. The Warrior's No. 1 drained a left-to-right putt to earn the bragging rights and ride a high to end the summer.
"I've never made a putt to win a tournament before, so that was pretty cool," said Corcoran. "I was pretty nervous, but that putt was awesome."

Corcoran said he read as a relatively flat putt with a slight left-to-right bend to it. But there was no way he was giving up the hole.
"I just hit it harder and straight," he said. "I was just trying to hit the hole."
The tournament was a way to get the Brookline High School golf team back together for one more competitive round of golf before the team got down to business, according to Corcoran. Roughly 30 junior golfers participated in the stroke play event, and Corcoran said 95 percent of the field was from Brookline.
As a No. 1 player, Corcoran was happy to come out on top of the field, but he was happier to see most of his potential teammates playing well at the end of a long summer.
"It gave me confidence about our team," he said, "because one of the guys played really well and shot in the upper 70s and the rest of the guys were solid too."
