The Brookline High School 21st Century Fund announced it will celebrate its founder and former BHS Headmaster, Dr. Robert Weintraub, at its gala on Saturday, November 19, 2011. In 1998, Dr. Weintraub created the BHS 21st Century Fund as a way to channel private investment as venture capital in public education. The fund enables BHS to develop new approaches and try innovative curriculum that enhances each BHS student’s educational experience.
“We aim to guarantee that innovation continues at BHS – resulting in an inspired and engaged faculty and a well prepared and knowledgeable student body that graduates from BHS with 21st century skills. As a result of Bob’s initial vision, persistence and values, BHS students have even more opportunities to learn and to reach their potential. This year’s gala is a tribute to Bob and will give our community the opportunity to say thank you to him,” said Jessica Conaway, BHS 21st Century Fund, Executive Director.
To date, the 21st Century Fund has had great success as seven of its 16 pilot programs have been fully integrated into the BHS curriculum. Current programs include: African-American Scholars, Arts Infusion Lab, BHS Writes, Global Leadership Academy and Ithaka Project. The November 19th Black Tie Gala will be held at the Brookline High School Schluntz Gymnasium and will begin at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will honor Dr. Weintraub’s legacy and will feature dinner and dancing. Seating is limited and the event is expected to sell out. Tables, tickets and program tributes can be purchased on the organization’s website www.BHS21stCenturyFund.org.
