The first screening of the Race Reels Film Series, films to jumpstart a conversation about race, will be held in the MLK room of Brookline High School on Tuesday, September 27th at 5:30pm. All are welcome to enjoy free pizza and a free movie screening of Hoodwinked, with filmmakers Nik Walker and Dylan Lazerow in attendance.
Hoodwinked is a BHS film made by students in 2006 that raised issues about interracial dating, the N word, and segregation in the high school. The filmmakers, Nik Walker and Dylan Lazerow, are coming back to BHS five years after the film was made for a discussion and Q&A after the screening.

More about Race Reels: RACE REELS is a program created by Abby Erdmann, recipient of the 2011 Olmstead Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching awarded by Williams College. She worked with Krissie Jankowski, a teacher of documentary filmmaking, and Dr. Chris Vick, head of African American Scholars, to design a program that would spark discussion and dialogue about race. Race Reels meets once a month for ten months as a mix of in-school field trips for students and after school events for students and the public. The goal of Race Reels is to provide a common experience and a jumping off point for conversations around race that are difficult to start and to develop an audience that is comfortable talking about race issues.
