Grenades On Griggs Road? It's Just A Drill Say Brookline Police

Brookline Police department tweeted out that should anyone hear some loud 'bangs' today on or near Griggs Road, they should not be alarmed.

BROOKLINE, MA — If you hear a loud bang near Griggs Road today between 1 and 4 p.m. don't be alarmed, it's just the police, the department tweeted out today.

The Brookline Police Department will be conducting training exercises on Griggs Road today, Tuesday Dec. 12 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Folks nearby may hear loud bangs as part of this training.

It’s a door breaching training so it should sound less like gunshots and more like flash bangs, but Brookline police do get several calls about gunshots whenever there are fireworks, which can also sound like a grenade or flash bang. Police said they sent out a notification as well as an Alert Brookline for the residents in the surrounding neighborhood.

Every two or three years, the Brookline Police Department sets up a "simulation training" for all of its officers. Police officers are asked to enter into the staged scenarios as if they were real-life situations, complete with (fake) guns drawn when needed. At the end of the scenario a team goes over what went well and what could be better. In 2015, the Brookline Police Department and Fallon Ambulance Service started working together on the training for the first time at the site of the old Circle Cinema where they role-played several "active shooter" situations.
