Loaded Gun On Campus, Student Arrested In Chestnut Hill
A student at a Chestnut Hill college was arrested this weekend for having a loaded gun in his dorm room that he was not licensed to carry.

BROOKLINE, MA — Pine Manor College staff found a gun in a dorm room on May 4 and called in Brookline Police who then arrested a student for having a loaded weapon improperly stored and unlicensed.
The arrest comes after four people wearing masks and carrying guns broke into a dorm room on campus and another student was injured in a tussle, though it's unclear still, if the two incidents were related.
Police arrested Ebrahim Jallow, 24, of Adams Street in Hartfort, CT, and charged him at 11:55 p.m. with possession of a firearm without an license, possession of ammunition without a permit and improper storage of a non large capacity firearm.

As police were investigating the armed dorm room invasion from May 3, a staff member told Pine Manor's Dean of Students that Jallow, had a firearm in his room. The dean searched the student's room as part of protocol, and found a gun in the bottom right drawer of Jallow's desk double wrapped in a black nylon and black "reaper" mask, according to a police report.
After police got a search warrant, police searched the room, and found a Taurus .44cal revolver fully loaded with five hollow tipped bullets.

Pine Manor's President Tom O'Reilly said he sent a note to students after the incident telling them the school was working with Brookline Police.
“The safety and well-being of our students and members of our community are our highest priority, and we will do all that we can to help the Brookline Police in its investigation. Our Brookline neighborhood is one of the safest in the nation, and even though an incident like this is rare and unusual for our community, it impacts all of us,” he said.
O'Reilly said the college was taking the following steps to increase the campus security:
- Additional security staff has been added to patrol our villages extensively, particularly throughout the evening hours and overnight.
- Brookline Police has increased patrol car visits throughout the campus and the surrounding neighborhood.
- New cameras were added at the gate and more cameras will be added in key locations throughout the campus.
- The College is developing a set of additional actions based on input from the Brookline Police and suggestions from the community.
O'Reilly said the campus Student Success Team and Counselors were re-doubling their efforts to be in front of students and members of our community to support them in any way that is needed.
Although Massachusetts does not permit guns on campus at all, 12 states do allow guns on campus in some form, including Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin.
A Department of Justice study found that most violent crimes that victimize college students happen off campus.
In 2014, there were 27,000 criminal incidents against persons and property on campus at public and private 2-year and 4-year postsecondary institutions that were reported to police and security agencies, representing a 2 percent decrease from 2013, when 27,400 criminal incidents were reported. The number of on-campus crimes per 10,000 full-time-equivalent students also decreased, from 18.4 in 2013 to 17.9 in 2014.
Pine Manor had no reported incidents of any kind of fire arm on campus between 2014 and 2016, according to the most recent statistics from the Federal Government.
In 2014 there were 21 reported burglaries on campus, 36 in 2015 and in 2016 there were 5 according to the US Department of Education website.
