Local School Needs the Community’s Help to Present at SXSWedu 2018

Beaver Country Day School hopes to return to SXSWedu, the nationally recognized education conference, next March.

Fresh off of presenting on the power of unlearning at SXSWedu 2017, Chestnut Hill’s Beaver Country Day School is hoping to return to the nationally-recognized education conference for the fourth time next March. Beaver teachers hope to return to Austin, TX to present on the importance of professional development at SXSWedu 2018.

As an inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary collaborative institution, Beaver believes teachers should have an active part in designing and carrying out their professional development in order to make it truly invaluable. Taking a “practice what you preach” approach, representatives from Beaver will share the importance of mirroring professional development to what students experience in the classroom. Beaver’s proposed panel will highlight the importance of collaboration between teachers (and students) across grades and disciplines, with the goal of helping teachers see professional development as a place where they brainstorm, lead and design their learning experience.

Beaver is excited about the opportunity to return to SXSWedu, but since votes from the public count for 30% of programming selection, they need the community's help! Voting is open through August 25 on the SXSWedu PanelPicker. To vote for Beaver, simply create a free account, log in and give their proposal a thumbs up.
