Local Seminarians from St. Johns Seminary and Boston College Featured on Nationally Televised Mass

WATERTOWN, MASS. (January 28, 2016)- The daily Catholic Mass was celebrated at the Watertown studios of CatholicTV in the Chapel of Holy Cross.

Fr. Brian Clary the pastor at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Brookline, Mass. celebrated today’s Mass in honor of the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas. Fr. Clary was joined by two interning seminarians including Joseph Brice, a seminarian in formation for the priesthood for the Diocese of Providence at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Mass., who served at the altar; and Brother Scott Surrency O.F.M.Cap. who is studying at Boston College and served as lector for the Mass. Beginning on Sunday the celebration of Catholic Schools Week.

St. Mary of the Assumption Parish consists of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Brookline as well as St. Lawrence Church in Chestnut Hill. St. Mary of the Assumption was dedicated on August 22, 1886 by Archbishop Williams. About 12 years later, Reverend Lawrence J. Morris, the pastor at the time, initiated the start of a grammar school headed by the Sisters of Notre Dame. St. Thomas Aquinas was a renowned philosophical writer and teacher, most well known for the writing of “Summa theologiae”, as well as his education across Italy. Throughout his career he not only wrote countless philosophical works but he was also called to help open a university in Naples, Italy.
