Stolen Car, Burglarious Tools, Thwarted Escape: Brookline Arrests
A man woke up to police asking him why he was parked across multiple spaces. The car he was sleeping in was reported stolen.

BROOKLINE, MA — The following are taken from the public Brookline Police arrest logs. Remember just because something was reported, doesn't mean that's the way it shook out.
Stolen car: On Wed., Sept 5, Brookline Police arrested Jose Santiago, 20, of Roxbury at 11:49 a.m. in front of the High Street apartments after they allegedly found him passed out in a green Honda Civic. The car was parked in the parking lot angled across multiple spaces at 22 High St. with the engine running and a key in the ignition. When police tried to communicate with him they said he appeared confused and disoriented, spelled his names differently several times and said he was trying to meet a girl that lived there. The girl denied knowing the man. Santiago was transported to a hospital, though the reason was redacted in the police report. After an investigation it came out that the car was reported stolen and police charged the man with larceny of a motor vehicle and being in possession of burglarious tools. He was also wanted on a warrant out of New Jersey. That jurisdiction noted it would be seeking to extradite the man.
Bike Bait alert: On Saturday, Sept. 8, Police arrested Jorge Cartagena, 62, of Allston at 5:25 a.m. after dispatch got an alarm that a bicycle equipped with police GPS monitor and a tracking system became mobile. The "bait bike" had been secured to street pole with a wire lock on the Station Street side of Brookline Village MBTA Station. When police got there they asked Cartagena to get off the bike and put his hands up, which he started to do, then allegedly attempted to dart past the officer who was telling him to stop. Another officer stepped in and tacked the man to the ground. According to the report the first officer tripped and landed hard, too, before they were able to secure the man. Cartagena was charged with larceny under $1,200.00, and resisting arrest.
